I sipon the excess water off the glazes after letting them settle over night. They are now the right consistency to apply to the pots.
I make three sets of cone packs to guide me in firing the kiln. The cones tell me how much heat energy the ware has absorbed and not how hot the kiln is.
I use tongs to dip the first coat of glaze. I then dip the rims in a second glaze and then brush a wash of glaze or engobe of metallic oxides on the pot. Some pieces have 7 different layers of glazes running over each other.
